Providing compassionate in-home and out-patient care in Plymouth, NH

When it became obvious my father was in the final months of his battle with cancer, we knew we would need the help of hospice. The respectful care, compassion and dignity that hospice provided for my father was amazing. They laughed with him, listened to his concerns and made sure he felt as comfortable as possible. More importantly, they valued him as a person and ensured that his transition was as he would want it. Not only did they care for him, but they helped me make peace with what was happening, and provided me with as much information as I wanted as to what to expect in the process. I had never realized how much hospice does to support a person and their family, and I was incredibly humbled by it. I knew that when I felt ready, I wanted to offer whatever help I could to support families who are going through this. Now I’m a hospice volunteer~ Joleen W.

Your main role as a volunteer will be patient and family support. Sometimes we need administrative, community outreach and fundraising support. Volunteer delivering groceries, Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health, Plymouth, NHChoose from a variety of volunteer opportunities to find what best fits your talents and schedule, so that you can best serve others.

In response to patient requests, Pemi-Baker is actively seeking male volunteers and individuals with military backgrounds to help make a meaningful difference in the lives of our Veteran patients.

Free, specialized training gives you confidence in your ability to help.

FREE HOME HEALTH & HOSPICE VOLUNTEER TRAINING PROGRAM

  • Wednesdays, 5 week Sessions (10am-12pm)
  • SESSION 1: February 12th, 19th, 26th, March 12th, 19th, 2025
  • SESSION 2: May 14th, 21st, 28th, June 11th, 18th, 2025
  • SESSION 3: September 10th, 17th, 24th, October 8th, 15th, 2025

This free program prepares you to help families who are caring for a loved one receiving health care at home or in their final stages of life under hospice care at home.  Most volunteers help 2-4 hours per month.  Our volunteers help in many ways including reading to clients, light housekeeping, walking the dog, or just relieving family caregivers to take a much needed break.Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health offers free Hospice Volunteer training, Plymouth, NH

Other volunteers with Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health sing and play instruments or visit with their therapy dogs. We notice a subtle shift in ourselves when we volunteer. We feel more connected to others, and we become less absorbed in the normal stresses of daily life. We share our experiences with others and want to help more. The Rewards of Being a Hospice Volunteer

While I was familiar with Hospice for many years, I only have been a hospice volunteer with Pemi Baker Hospice and Home Health (PBHHH) since October 2021.  When I retired, I began searching for volunteer work that would allow me to give back to my community.  A newsletter from PBHHH arrived in my email announcing training for hospice volunteers.  My family had experienced the need for hospice twice, once in Ohio and again in Florida.  The relief my family and I felt when the hospice volunteers arrived was beyond measure.  I want to bring the same kind of assistance to others.  PBHHH given me that opportunity by providing professional training with knowledgeable nurses, doctors, social workers and other health care professionals.  Their guidance has enabled me to meet the challenges of being s hospice volunteer, and I am very glad that I did it.
