PBCH and NANA Forge Alliance to
Improve Services to 24 Communities in Central New Hampshire
Public “Listening Session” Scheduled for July 21, 2020
We are pleased to announce that the Board Chairs of Pemi-Baker Community Health and Newfound Area Nursing Association signed a Letter of Intent to integrate in June. This started the process to formally unite the two organizations, providing a stronger and expanded foundation for delivering the highest quality home care and hospice services possible. Our decision is the natural outgrowth of many years of cooperation, collaboration, and coordination.
We are confident that this integration will benefit all communities currently served by the two organizations. After combining the NANA and PBCH staff teams, the integrated organization will employ over 85 staff members in a variety of capacities and roles. All clinics and screenings presently offered in Bristol and Plymouth will continue at their respective office locations. NANA’s patients will have access to PBCH’s Outpatient, Membership, and Community Classes, and Palliative Care will expand to the Newfound area.
The Strategic Alliance Committee, composed of four members from each organization’s Board, continues to meet weekly to determine the framework for the expanded and integrated organization. Here are some of the primary reasons for integrating at this time:
- PBCH and NANA share a common mission and commitment to high quality individualized care.
- For over a decade, PBCH and NANA have been allied in sharing programming and resources.
- Becoming a larger organization builds organizational strength and team depth.
- Economies of scale are anticipated as both agencies now hold contracts with many of the same support organizations (i.e., auditors, IT, and coding).
- Each organization possesses unique and valuable resources that will enhance the long-term viability of the new organization.
Successful integration of the two organizations requires a great deal of thought, care and action on many different levels. As we move forward, one key question is: “What name represents the combined organizations?” Committee members agree that a new name is important, signifying a new phase of organizational development, and have expressed a preference for a geographic locator. Variations of the name “Pemi-Baker Newfound Community Health and Hospice” are being considered.
At this phase in our process, your input on the question of a name, as well as any other concerns you may have regarding the proposed integration, is important. To facilitate the gathering of information and community input, a public listening session is scheduled for July 21, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. Following a short presentation on the planned merger, we want to hear from you – our clients, our supporters, our neighbors, and our partners in community service. A reminder email will be sent to our full community listing.
By state statute, all non-profit mergers must be reviewed and approved by the Charitable Trusts Unit of the Attorney General’s Office. We plan to submit formal documentation of the proposed integration to the Charitable Trusts Unit in August and are hopeful that the merger will be accomplished in early fall, followed by a transition period of up to one year. Although this process can take up to six (6) months after formal application, we hope to obtain approval in less time due to the extensive work we have already completed and the alignment of our mission and goals. A formal public meeting on the proposed merger will occur once the transaction has been submitted to the Attorney General’s Office for review.
This is an exciting time, and we hope that you will share our enthusiasm for the future.

William York, Board Chair, Newfound Area Nursing Association
