The challenges of being an at-home caregiver (or even a long-distance one, as in the case of an adult child coordinating the care of a parent from some distance away)
Event Details
The challenges of being an at-home caregiver (or even a long-distance one, as in the case of an adult child coordinating the care of a parent from some distance away) can be overwhelming, daunting, and exhausting. The experience naturally alters one’s freedom for social interaction beyond the home, and this reality was exacerbated as we lived through the height of the current pandemic. Although caregiving is an expression of love and concern, the constant vigilance required from the caregiver can be emotionally draining and the stress of it can have physical ramifications. Consequently, self-care is an important quality for caregivers to cultivate.
Connecting with other caregivers can help to lighten the emotional load imposed by this ever-increasing phenomenon that has become a part of contemporary American life as our population ages. We hope this gathering will allow for opportunities of sharing, brainstorming, problem-solving, and supportive listening.
The group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 10-11:30am. This group will meet in the Conference Room at PBH&HH. As they become available, relevant handouts and other materials will be offered.
You MUST pre-register in order to participate in this group. Please do so at least 24 hours prior to the meeting date. To register, please contact the facilitator, Guy Tillson, PBH&HH Hospice Spiritual Counselor and Bereavement Counselor, online via email at gtillson@pbhha.org or by phone at 603-536-2232.
If you would prefer to participate virtually by ZOOM, please indicate that, and we will attempt to accommodate you. Group size is limited to five people, so registrations will be accepted on a “first come, first served” basis.

Grief and Bereavement Support Group (Six Week Session)
Starting: Tuesday, February 14th, 2023- March 21st, 202 (11:00am)
Grief is the complex of feelings one experiences after loss- any kind of loss. Though we usually associate the idea of grief with the death of someone we have known and loved, grief is also experienced following termination of employment, destruction of one’s home after fire or natural disaster, divorce or the breakup of a relationship, relocation to an unfamiliar place where you know no one, loss of one’s finances through bad investments or crime, or the death of a pet. Many people choose to brush off grief or ignore it, but it really does not go away on its own. It can be helpful to be in the company of others who are also coming to terms with their grief.
PEMI-BAKER HOSPICE AND HOME HEALTH offers grief support groups at various times throughout the calendar year to assist persons in our area who would like help and companionship in processing their losses. The next group, “GRIEF 101: The Basics”, will begin on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. There will be an in-person morning session at 11:00am, held in the Exercise Room at the Plymouth Area Regional Senior Center. There will be a late afternoon session, accessible virtually only, beginning at 5:30pm. Virtual participation is also possible for the morning session. ALL virtual participants will need to download the app for TEAMS (It’s like ZOOM) on their devices. There is no cost to attend either session.
Each group will go for six weeks, ending on March 21, 2023. The group meetings will include presentations by the facilitator, worksheets, and sharing and discussion on such topics as: “Types of Grief”, “What Is Grief Work?”, “Principles of Transformation”, “What About Me?”, and others.
You must pre-register by Wednesday, February 7, 2023, in order to attend so that we know how many to prepare for. The groups will be facilitated by Guy Tillson, Pemi-Baker’s Bereavement Coordinator. You may contact him by email at gtillson@pbhha.org or by leaving a message by phone at (603) 536-2232.

Hospice Volunteer Training Programs via TEAMS!
Tuesdays, 2-4pm, 5 week session: February 7th, 2023- March 7th, 2023
This FREE program prepares you to help families who are caring for a loved one in their final stages of life. Hospice volunteers help in many ways: reading to clients, light house keeping walking the dog, or just relieving family caregivers to take a much needed break. As a non-profit, Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health also benefits from volunteer help with their fundraising and events. Most volunteers help 2-4 hours per month. Join us!

Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health Empowers Individuals to Make Informed Healthcare Decision by Offering FREE Workshops at Local Senior Centers in April
National Healthcare Decision Day is an annual event that takes place on April 16th to encourage individuals to make decisions about their healthcare in advance of a medical crisis. This day aims to empower patients to make informed decisions about their care, reduce confusion and stress for families, and ultimately improve the quality of healthcare for everyone.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of making healthcare decisions in advance. Many people have had to make critical decisions about their health and the health of their loved ones in a matter of minutes or hours. The stress and confusion of these situations can be overwhelming, making it difficult to make informed decisions that align with an individual’s values and wishes.
National Healthcare Decision Day provides an opportunity for individuals to take control of their healthcare decisions before a medical crisis occurs. This day reminds us all of the importance of discussing our healthcare wishes with our loved ones, healthcare providers, and designated agents. This open dialogue can help ensure that our healthcare choices are respected and followed in the event we cannot speak for ourselves.
The theme for this year’s National Healthcare Decision Day is “Planning for your Future: It’s Always Too Early Until It’s Too Late.” We urge everyone to take the time to consider their health care wishes and make plans for the future. This can involve completing an advance directive, naming a healthcare agent, and discussing these decisions with family and loved ones.
Pemi-Baker is offering three Advance Directive workshops during the month of April, collaborating with the Grafton Senior Citizens Council:
- April 5th, 10-11:00am: Orford Senior Center (603-353-9107)
- April 12th, 10:30-11:30am: Lin-Wood Area Senior Services (603-745-7446)
- April 19th, 10:30-11:30am: Plymouth Regional Senior Center (603-536-1204)
These group workshops are free. Our Pemi-Baker social worker will be a neutral guide helping you reflect on and identify the values, beliefs and goals that shape the way you make health care decisions. Advance Directive forms will be available for use and we ask that you pre-register by phone, before the event, using phone numbers listed above.

For more information on Advance Directive Forms please visit our website: www.pbhha.org

Tuesdays, 2-4pm, 5 week session: May 2nd through May 30th, 2023
This FREE program prepares you to help families who are caring for a loved one in their final stages of life. Hospice volunteers help in many ways: reading to clients, light house keeping walking the dog, or just relieving family caregivers to take a much needed break. As a non-profit, Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health also benefits from volunteer help with their fundraising and events. Most volunteers help 2-4 hours per month. Join us!

Hospice Volunteer Training Programs via TEAMS!
Join us!
